On March 30, 2016, the Joint Commission issued a report on the top 5 most challenging requirements for 2015 with regard to national patient safety goals, the universal protocol for preventing wrong site, wrong procedure, wrong person surgery, and accreditation, certification and participation requirements. According to the Joint Commission website, it is an independent not for profit organization that accredits and certifies nearly 21,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. The Joint Commission published a table which identifies 5 Joint Commission requirements identified most frequently as “not compliant” for surveys and reviews from January 1, 2015 through January 31, 2015. According to the Joint Commission, the data represents citations. The report addresses ambulatory care issues, behavioral health issues, critical access hospital and homecare, among other issues.
